Sweat in Style

We’ve been blurring the lines between gym and street for some time.  I’m guilty of reaching for my leggings on the regular to run errands over the weekend or as I like to call it “no buttons Saturday”.  Athletic wear is an extension of your personality and i’m loving all of the great brands and styles out there.  Plus, working out is more fun when you have something cute to wear.  Here’s my recent roundup of goodies for gettin my sweat on.

Healthy Hair

Dry weather can not only wreak havoc on your skin, but it can affect your hair as well.  My stylist encourages me to adjust my routine based on the changing seasons.  I highlight my hair on the regular so I like to make sure I incorporate color safe products into my routine.  Here are a few winter hair care tips and the products i’m loving right now.

Winter Beauty Regimen

Maintaining beautiful skin in the winter isn’t easy – am I right ladies?!?  I’m a product junky, but I have my favorites I come back to because they never let me down.  Here’s a peek into my bag of tricks and my daily regimen (in addition to always applying lip gloss).

Morning:

 Midday Pick-me-up:

  •  Kiehl’s Refreshing Mist:  This cooling facial mist is fantastic.  It hydrates, detoxifies and purifies skin with a burst of Lavender, Geranium and Rosemary essential oils.
  • Being the lip gloss addict that I am, i’m constantly reapplying throughout the day and here are some of my faves:
    • CO Bigelow Mentha Lip Tint:  There are several great subtle colors to choose from and they have a hint of mint flavor.  You can quickly gloss before a meeting and freshen your breath at the same time.
    • MAC LipGlass:  I have tubes of lipglass in every purse and pocket.  There’s so many fantastic colors to choose from and they don’t dry out your lips which is an added bonus.

Nighttime:  I’m an avid fan of Kiehl’s products – you can see there’s a theme here.  I’ve been using their products for years and their entire line is fantastic.

  • Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser:  This cleanser is great and suds-up a little as it thoroughly cleanses skin without over-drying.
  • Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye:  After i’m done cleansing my face, I dab this soothing eye cream on right away.  It leaves under-eye skin feeling strengthened and replenished while working its magic on puffiness and dark circles.
  • Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate:  Some people are worried about putting oil on your face, but you will change your mind after trying this little miracle.  You only need a few drops and pad it onto your face to repair and replenish skin.  The lavender scent is calming and divine.
  • Kiehl’s Rosa Arctica Lightweight Cream:  After applying the concentrate, I like to finish everything off with this lightweight cream.  I am a fan of the lightweight cream and it fights signs of skin aging so you can’t go wrong.
  • Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1:  I keep this balm on me at all times.  It helps relieve chapped or cracked lips and I make sure to put a layer on before I go to sleep every night.
  • Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask:  I LOVE this product and use the mask once a week.  It’s a gentle mask that gives you an instant glow.

Hard-Boiled Eggs – Oven Style

Hard-boiled eggs are an easy and healthy snack.  My mind was recently blown when I heard you can make these tasty snacks in the oven – yes the oven.  It’s perfect for making a large batch of eggs for the week with little fuss or mess.

Instructions:

  • Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.
  • Put a whole (unopened) egg in each individual cup of a 12-cup muffin pan.
  • Bake for 30 minutes, then remove and immediately place in an ice water bath.
  • Allow the eggs to cool, and then peel.

Love Jams

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner.  I’ve never been a fan of the day, but I know there are quite a few people that eat it up!  So, for all the lovers of love out there I’ve created a Valentine’s Day playlist just for you.  XOXO

February Cravings

Ah February, the shortest month (yippie).  Still, there’s so much to do!  My mind has been a flurry lately between work and play. I’ve lived in my place for two years and have been fixated on the blank space on the wall above my bed trying to figure out what to do.  I have so many amazing photos within my Instagram account and found a great place that will print and frame your photos.  Order has been placed and will let you know how it turns out.  The link to Printstagram along with my cravings round-up for this month is included below.

Breakfast for Dinner: Protein Pancakes

Lately I’ve had a hankering for pancakes.  I tend to default to eggs for breakfast, but thought I’d try something new and get my pancake fix at the same time.  After trying different versions, this one’s the winner and worth giving a try.

Ingredients:
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 1/2 cup oats (blended – or 1/4 cup oat flour)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 egg white
  • 1/4 cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp unsweetened vanilla almond milk (or milk of choice)
Instructions:
  • Blend oats in a blender or magic bullet (if using oats over oat flour). Stir dry ingredients together. Add wet ingredients and mix well (batter will be thick).
  • Heat pan on medium heat. Spray with nonstick spray and slowly spoon batter into pan. Cook time will vary, mine took about a minute and 30 seconds before I flipped them.
  • Top with fruit, Greek yogurt, pure maple syrup or whatever you’re in the mood for.

February Must-Dos

Although February is a shorter month, it’s typically a challenging one for me.  The days are gray and Spring is so close yet so far away.  We’ve been pretty lucky with the weather this winter – only one snowstorm so far (knock on wood).  In the spirit of maintaining positivity and focus on the good things, I’ve creating my list of my “must-dos” for this month to help combat the winter blues err grays.  Let’s see how many I can cross off over the next 28 days.

Feb Must-Dos

  • Try a new restaurant: Restaurant week is here and a great time to try new places at affordable prices.
  • Treat myself to a spa day: Either at home or the spa, I’m going to set aside a day to de-stress.
  • Host an Oscar party: I love having my friends over and I have yet to host an Oscar party.  Let the menu planning commence!
  • Stimulate the mind: Reading is a great escape and want to make sure I’m having fun and learning as well.  I want to switch things up and read a book for fun and for work.
  • Connect with friends: I fall into the trap of texting friends a quick hello or sending an email to check in.  Friends near or far, I want to make more of a priority to chat with them over the phone.
  • Take a cooking class: If you read my blog you know I love to cook.  I can always brush-up on my skills and learn new recipes.  This is a great way to spend time with friends and do something different.
  • Mind and body workout: Classes are my jam.  I’m an avid Pure Barre and Flywheel enthusiast.  However, I think it’s time to add yoga back into my routine to reap both the physical and mental benefits.
  • Watch more movies: Every time I go to the movie theater, I wonder why I don’t go more often.  There are so many great movies out right now and I can’t wait to check em out.
